TheNote — a note app for writing things down, not filing them
Most note apps quietly ask you to be tidy: pick a folder, add tags, clean it up later. TheNote goes the other way. It moves organizing over to the app and its AI features, so you can pour out whatever is in your head. Sons Labo builds it as "a note for focusing on your life".
What it is
TheNote never puts "management for its own sake" on your to-do list. Open it and you are already in the text. Write whatever comes, drop in a divider line when you want a break, and the app takes care of filtering and revisiting later.
The idea behind it is expressive writing — the well-known habit of clearing your head by putting your unfiltered thoughts into words. Paper works for that, but keeping what you wrote means typing it up afterwards. With TheNote, the scribble itself is the record, ready to be revisited as it is.
What it can do
- Start writing instantly — no list screens or editors to wait for. Catching the moment a thought appears is the top priority.
- Skip the organizing — just add divider lines between scribbles. AI-based auto-organizing is in the works.
- Rich text — bold, code, tables, image and file attachments. Just enough for fast writing, and nothing more.
- Toggles and tasks — check things off, fold long scribbles away. To-dos and thoughts can live in the same note.
- Search built for revisiting — search across every note with surrounding context, so you can get back to that one line.
- Automatic backups — generational backups are saved on your device. Not losing what you wrote is a note app's first job.
Sync and privacy
To let you continue on Android what you started on your Mac, TheNote offers end-to-end encrypted sync. Notes are encrypted on your device with AES-256-GCM before they are sent, and the keys live only in the macOS Keychain and the Android Keystore. Data on the server cannot be decrypted by anyone — including the developer. Pairing is done by scanning a QR code shown on your Mac; no account or email address is needed.
